Other musketeers out there, please listen to your mommies or daddies about what you should and shouldnt
take. Just like that kiddy commercial that used to come on the t.v. telling kids not to use or take drugs without your mums
or dads permission.

Rats seem to be on the verge of bleeding to death when they get wounded,
especially if the wound is on fingers and toes. For most wounds I let the rat take care of it himself, unless the bleeding
goes on too long. If so, I sprinkle some flour on the wound. It will absorb the blood and help to slow the flow. The rat can
lick it off himself when he so chooses. Keep in mind that direct pressure applied to the wound can make the rat's injury more
painful for him. Try not to panic, blood looks bad, but I can assure you, the rat is pretty unfazed in most cases. And once
you have the bleeding stopped don't play with the wound or you might start it bleeding again. See also "wounds" in this
same section.
Tending to the wounds
-Some rats may not stay still long enough to benefit from a cold or hot
compress.
- Some rats do not like the feel of bandages and will simply chew
them off. They could also hate the Collar and make every attempt at removing it. Never use a bandage or collar if you dont
know what allergies your rat has. Some may even be allergic to the latex in the bandage or feel really uncomfortable with
the collor on.
- Whatever liquids, lotions, and ointments you apply to the skin
or coat have to be non-toxic because the rat will groom, lick, barber-it off.
-You can't use a thermometer on a rat for obvious reasons. I feel that
only a vet should use this method. -Rats can vomit , so you shouldn't give them liquids that will induce
vomiting-unless authorized by vet.
-Giving liquid medicine or water can be givin with an eyedropper or syringe
in the side of the mouth. Do not give liquids by force, it could hurt you and but mostly your rat. Make sure their jaw
is working, if the jaw is damaged or broken it may be hard for your rat to swallow the liquid. Once
again, injury can also occurforce is used on your rat."Allow the rat time to swallow or you may risk the development of
a life-threatening lung infection if some of the medicine accidentally enters the trachea."says: Sandra Beasley
SEE A VET: For bleeding that will not stop even with the use of direct pressure
or flour, or corn starch. Bleeding from any:
(eyes, ears, nose, mouth, anus, vagina,
penis), or bleeding from a major artery.

The smaller the animals are, the more times their heart beats. Since, rats are very small creatures which could sometimes
get big or over-weight their body temperature needs to be regulated more. Their body temperature is regulated throughout their
tails.
